Cloud Medical Images Storage

Medical imaging data — MRI scans, CT images, X-rays, ultrasound — has traditionally been handed to patients on CDs. CDs scratch, break, and become unreadable. Hospitals lose access to historical scans. Patients miss appointments because they can't locate imaging from a year ago.

Golden Sea built a cloud platform that eliminates physical media entirely. Patients, doctors, and hospitals all access imaging through a unified platform: patients see their own records across providers; doctors see their patients' historical imaging; hospitals manage institutional data with granular permission controls.

Security was the primary technical challenge. Medical imaging data is protected by law in most jurisdictions — data breaches carry severe legal and reputational consequences. We implemented AES-256 encryption for all data at rest and TLS 1.3 for all data in transit. Role-based access control (RBAC) ensures patients see only their own data, doctors see only their assigned patients, and administrative access is scoped per institution.

Storage uses Amazon S3 with lifecycle policies that tier infrequently-accessed historical scans to lower-cost storage classes automatically — managing the cost of storing large-volume high-resolution imaging data at scale. The mobile app (React Native) allows patients to share images directly with specialists from their phone, eliminating the CD hand-off workflow entirely.
