Marine Inventory Management

Supply Chain / Web App

An inventory system for a marine supply chain, tracking 347 items in 23 categories in real time.

Marine Inventory Management

The brief

What it is and how it was built.

At sea, a missing part can keep a vessel idle for days. Without a proper system, stock is tracked by hand across categories, locations and transactions, and some items pile up while others run out.

Golden Sea built a web inventory system set up for the client's marine supply chain. It tracks more than 347 items in 23 categories, with live stock levels, where each item is kept, minimum quantity alerts and reorder triggers.

Purchase orders are built in. When stock drops below the minimum, the system drafts an order for a manager to review and approve. Approval rules depend on the category and the order value: routine consumables go through on their own, while expensive equipment needs a senior sign-off.

Usage stats show managers which forms people open most, how often each team member logs in and which reports get downloaded, which points to where staff need training or where the process gets stuck.

The dashboard works on phones and tablets, so people on the dock or on board can check stock and send requests without going back to the shore office. Data can be exported to Excel for reports.
